Hey all, have this teapot, would greatly appreciate any information about it. It has some markings on the bottom and a lovely floral design. The markings on the bottom say "2316" with a "05" coming up diagonally from the 2. Maybe silver plated? It also has two white rings around each end of the handle, not sure what they're made of. 7 1/2" in height with a 5" diameter. Thanks!!

Pretty sure your teapot is silverplate, no idea as to who may have made it.

The white rings would have been a material that would prevent the heat from the teapot conducting to the handle.

Victorian silverplate, probably American, but beyond that...dunno.

It appears to have tarnished very evenly. I'd be inclined to leave it like that as it would be more run of the mill polished up. As it is it is a bit unusual. Not very valuable, though.

The white rings are usually porcelain.

Possibly with a French Gray or Butler's finish?

shhhhhhhhh! - we don't use "dirty words" around here..............."bone" if you must, but "porcelain" is safer.....................

OTOH it's antique and the "usual material" is less than 10% of the item's weight, so it's relatively safe.
