    Hi all,

Asprey appears to be the maker however it might be imported or a fake. can't see the mark to the left of the silver standard mark (lion).

The maker (or sponsor) is Asprey, a high end retailer in London. The date letters are for 1994 (the u) and 1995 (the v). The hallmark office was Sheffield.

It looks like it is a decanter label, sometimes called a bottle ticket too.

I always thought the one mark was a maker's mark, so I found this interesting:
It is important to remember, however, that the the sponsor's mark will only tell you who registered the mark and submitted the item to be tested and hallmarked - which is not always the same thing as the manufacturer of the item.

So I can see that large "A" as an Asprey registration mark but, if true, there's nothing to say who actually manufactured the piece and it could have originated pretty much anywhere.

That's right, and it can even be an overseas maker. In this case well known retailers often use specific silversmiths and the original manufacturer can sometimes be traced through their records. Historically firms such as Walker & Hall made lots of silverware for London retailers.

Agree with Bakers, an import would be marked accordingly.

That's a very nice geniune Asprey ticket.

Good point on the sponsor mark, all the same.

It is worth mentioning that the dates on my site such as the 1988..1998 for the Asprey Sheffield entry are not absolute usage dates, merely dates for which I have seen that particular mark. The relevant range is therefore liable to be expanded whenever I come across new dates.
