Hi all, just polishing up my new jewellery. Unsure of this mark on a silver & coral necklace. Looks like an 'n' inside a circle inside a square, 925 and M.47

    Many thanks

looks like a chinese alphabetic character. I'd check Hong Kong first and then eventually colonial silver.
where did you get it ?

I hadn't considered it being a character, I will do some searching. Bought in a charity shop in the UK, no idea of its history

    Very nice, Ratsy.
Doesn't look like a Chinese character to me at all, btw. As you said, more like an 'n' inside a circle in a square cartouche.

I like it, and am a sucker for a pretty bar chain - the marks look like fairly recent Greek to me, they often use a Greek letter or a number prefix to a number, separated by a period, to identify the workshop, along with the numeric fineness, and often the shop's trademark too...

I agree, the necklace is fairly recent. Greek makes sense, and the letter would be an η (êta).
