Silver Pill (hair) Box

    I hope that you are well. Any information about this little piece would be much appreciated. From a quick search on SilverMakersMarks website, it appears to be Chester, 1902 and by Henry Matthews. It is 4.5cm x 4.5cm and just short of 29 grams.

    With the item came marriage and birth certificates. They came from a home in Yorkshire, England, but the marriage certificate, dated 1889, was from Lanarkshire (Scotland) and the birth certificate for their daughter is dated 1907.

    Could be a pill box or a snuff box.

    The inside lid appeaers to be gilded.

    Snuff boxes were made of silver, then fully or partially gilded to protect the interior from corrosive snuff.
