Hi all anyone know sorry who knows what this is only 170mm long bottom is fixed top comes off reminds me of either a christening type holder or something you put a flower in has provision to put on wall

 

I think it is a Jewish Mezuzah case perhaps.

Beat me to it; I seem to be collecting them! I have one on my front door; the builder and original owners were Jewish.

Yes, a mezuzah, which holds words of blessing and protection for the house written on a little scroll rolled up and popped inside. Traditionally nailed to the doorframe at the entrance to the house.

 

Once placed , you're not supposed to remove it.....so...

 

I have the two from doors to a local synagogue; they decommissioned the place and took them off the doors. The scrolls were buried but the holders ended up with me.
