    Recent thrift purchase.

At first thought it was a single bookend, but the bottom is hollow and open, now wondering if this might have been a lid to something?

Guessing silverplate or some kind of base metal (not silver for sure). Shown next to soup can for scale.

Last thing, there seems to be something written on the side. See last 2 photos.

    Any ideas on this? Thanks.

Mine must be missing cement or something in the base. Definitely the same figure as the link. Wonder what the writing says?? Thanks!

If you look closely, the other is hollow, as well. Most likely it was just a tin plate covering the bottom that came loose, or something. As for the text? I do not know. :bookworm:

I wonder whether it was originally attached to a heavier base.

Well, a base that would give it more weight, yes. I meant a larger marble, stone, or even wooden base.
