Featured Skeletal Buddha ?

    Need some insight into this carved, rather emaciated Buddha figure (height 11 inches) and it's meaning, as opposed to the most often seen plump figures. s-l1600 (9).jpg s-l1600 (8).jpg s-l1600 (10).jpg

    He is. In Theravada Buddhism an Arhat is someone who has attained enlightenment through fasting and meditation.
    There are not many Theravada Buddhists in China, which is why these statues are not all that common. Theravada is found mostly in southern and southeastern Asia.
