Featured Small chair identification help please

I have a small chair that sits with my desk but I am unsure as to how old it is.

I have seen these called ballon back and some called a stick back chair.
It has a cane seat.
Is there anyway to tell the age of this chair ?

It stands at 87 cm high
And 38 cm at its widest point across the back.

Any help would be much appreciated

I'd say second half of the 19th century ca. 1870. Some variant of these was made for many years.

 

nice. someone told me that these were for upperclass kids at th time to learn how to properly sit on a chair without breaking it; not sure though if this is true.

they weren't intended to torment children but to teach them how to properly behave in "society". yours is a very good make; the cane is woven in Vienna style, which is much stronger than the more simple woven ones.
