Purchased at the end of an estate sale. I thought it was 1920's or later, but found something interesting when I got it home. The 4th picture shows a metal piece that I think can be pulled out, and appears to connect the top to the pedestal base. Looks to be a hand forged piece of iron.

Would think 3rd quarter of 19th century.

So I was off a bit. Not bad for $20 then. Any idea about that metal piece?

I was going to say that it's a revival piece ca. 1900. A steal for $20.00. I can't tell where on the table that metal piece is located: I would have thought it was a drawer lock.

I investigate it a bit more tonight. See if I can lock the drawers. Thanks.

My thought would have been 1860s - 80s, sewing table.

Mine too. I wonder if it had one of those sort of fabric sack thingies below.

Would an earlier piece have those dividers in the drawer? I agree, lovely and a steal for $20.

I've only seen those on the four legged variety...I would imagine it would be difficult on a pedestal version. But I haven't investigated, so it could be possible..............

I've seen them on pedestal ones, but I can't remember how it worked!

I thought I had seen it as well, but not being able to picture the mechanics of it, I doubted myself. Not an unusual occurrence............
