Small end tables?

These have bounced around my family for quite a while and have been in storage in my basement for several years now. None of the previous owners want them and they really aren't my style. Would like to learn a bit more about them before making a decision on what to do. Thanks!

 

These are French. My best guess is circa 1950. Hard to say without more pics. The porcelain medallions appear to be a decal transfer rather than hand painted.

 

Dan Fennell, regarding your first photo -- what is "under" the piece of glass(?) or plexiglass(?) on the top?

It "almost" looks like a "painting" on the wooden top. It also "almost" looks like it is a piece of "art" slipped under the glass/plexiglass.

By any chance is there "marquetry" under the glass/plexiglass?

Not my style either Dan......but they are very nice....look to be well made....and in great condition.........
I'd say put em back in storage if you can , untill such time as prices rise for this style of item.

 

With the marquetry on top, could this be Italian instead of French.
Might be a little earlier than 50s. Maybe 40s.

How far back do people in your family remember these in someone's home?
