Hello Board Buddies! I've got four of these 7 1/4" reticulated plates. I suspect they are the survivors of a cake set. Three feature the wading birds and one features a bird on a fence rail. I think those are oak leaves around the edge. Does anyone have a guess where they came from? I was thinking German but for some reason the palm trees just don't look German. Could these be English? I'm assuming very late 1800's - early 1900's. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks for any assistance!

Nature scenes depicted on pieces from this era don't always come from near by nature. The works of naturalist painters like John James Audubon and others were often used as inspiration on pieces like this.

    But are they date palms?

I thought the only date palm was in a glasshouse.
