Small Stone Carved Bowl

    The stone appears to be soft with some kind of brown finish. Pretty beat up condition. Any idea of the origin and age?

    Looks like soapstone. Commonly used by locals in South, Central and North America as well as Africa. Bowls have been made for more than 3,000 years and currently still are. Almost impossible to date due to low silica content.

    Probably soapstone was used all over the world. I guess withouth a carved motif and more specific shape it would be hard to attribute it to a certain region.
