Bought a bag of stuff today and found this little 4.5” vase. It is stone w/enamel (I think). There is a mark on the bottom And I hope it is translatable or someone has seen this mark before. Would love to know more. Like a rock. Heavy and thick

There is something I like about this little piece, but I cant figure out why. Is it even Chinese?

Looks like pottery to me, not a rock or stone.

Although we normally associate Kutani with porcelain, I am pretty sure that the mark reads Kutani and this is an example of Kutani pottery or stoneware.

I like it too. Like a little gourd.

I agree, as I thought so too. But the moment you pick it up and feel the weight, then touch the bare unfinished bottom, that all changed. I will try to get a really sharp image of the bottom. Soapstone I think....

Thank you for that info. Going to dig into that seeing @John Brassey mentioned Kutani as a possibility.

    Thank you for your comment
