Small wooden chest with brass banding

Hello all, I have this small wooden chest that I am hoping you could share some insight on. It doesn’t have any new fasteners, and I was unable to find anything online to help me narrow down the possible age based on what I see. My research led me to this site and I am hopeful you can help me learn some more about it. The chest is small, only 12 inches long and about 6.5 inches tall and wide. The nails used all have little brass circles they are nailed through, but none are perfectly centered, so I believe it is hand made.

 

I love a good box. I think its a newish piece,possibly made in India.

 

Also think this is newer, hand made in an old style. Tropical hardwood and India is a likely source.

 

Agree. A decorative piece. The type of thing sold in Home Goods and similar stores. Useful and attractive on a shelf but recent.

Agreed plus the banding does not look like brass.

 

Another vote for new-ish import decor item, but handmade in the old style.

 

Thank you all for the insight. Not sure what metal the bands are, but I agree that don’t look like the little circles that are more of a brassy color. I will enjoy the chest for what is it and keep my personal treasures in it. I think it was still worth the $5 I paid at goodwill!

 

My kind of price ! Its a useful size,perfect for yet more storage !
