Any thoughts of the age of these please?
The glass one looks familiar to me that I’ve seen one on the forum before but I can’t find it.
    Thankyou :)

Snake is Victorian, they were a common motif.

That snake pendant is wonderful, I always love snake and intertwined jewellery. Symbol of eternity and eternal love.
It looks gilt base metal, the stone is either banded onyx or glass made to look like banded onyx. Date 1860s-80s

I’m rather fond of the snake. He’s very cute. I wonder if I can carefully solder on the missing bail so he can be a pendant again.

Yay. It is a venerable oldie.:)
The one in the link is estimated ca 1870, so in the middle of the period.

And... The snake has a bull's eye banded agate in center, even more collectible!
Or AJ my be right with the thought it is perhaps glass imitating banded agate...
Going to seek my necklace with same metal and snake pendant to post a photo:peeking:

Here it is! Bought few months ago on French Ebay in a stones necklaces lot for 49€ :joyful:Lacking 2 pendants, I suspect they were turned into earrings at one time...
One of my fav pieces and a bargain!

Always wondered why banded agate old pieces are SOO EXPENSIVE:bucktooth:

If you don't mind me asking, how did you reach that estimate? the gilt metal and onyx combo, the style, the construction of the pendant, or a combo of those? :)

All of that! And I bet AJ has a lot of documentation books too :bookworm::)

I need to get some documentation books. The reason I ask is because I also have a banded agate piece in gilt metal (or gold, not sure yet), but it's a watch fob.

Also, that necklace is absolutely glorious!

For me, it is like all the grammar rules I learnt in my childhood... I'm unable to explain, but I apply them.
Jewellery styles and clues become a second nature when you've integrated them since years of collecting, seeing, visiting museums and handling hundreds of pieces at shops where the seller knows his stuff and is willing to share his knowledge:)

Fair enough. I've only been doing this for the last two years, so it's still very new to me. That's one of the reasons why I love this forum so much--I learn new things all the time.

    Nice!
    I'd say 1880/1890 :)
    Don't ask why I have this feeling;):joyful:

I can see that for a "newbie" in antiquing, your eye becomes sharper and sharper :)

We all learn something new here, so much different things from all over the world appear, and the knowledge is so wide:woot:

    Best forum ever!!!

Oh kyra, it is gorgeous, exactly the kind of bargain I love.
I suspect it was a parure piece, and the two pendants were kept on the earring hooks that originally came with it. But it is stunninhg as it is.
