I ran across some old tools today. Even though they seem well used they’re still quite sharp, as I found out quickly with a bit of careless handling. Despite the blood loss I feel a definite connection as they belonged to an ancestor.

Look closely. Maybe you mixed blood with your ancestors. :) The scroll work is such a nice touch for a common object. My levels are plastic and aluminum. I remember my father having a beautiful wood one too.

    Thanks folks!
There is definitely something neat about tools that were built to last someone’s lifetime or beyond.
It’s a pipe dream for sure, but at some point when things slow down for me I would love to be able to use some of these.
I didn’t photograph them but there are a multitude of files(some enormous!)that I know will come in handy in some of the projects that I do.
Once I get these all organized, moved and cleaned-up a bit I’ll post some better pictures of the whole lot. It will be interesting to hear some feedback and info on what some of the more odd pieces were for.

Very nice old school tools. I see some rabbiting planes @ the top. Some purest woodworkers still use these today with incredible results. The knifes or cutters all have different profiles to cut rabbits, ogees and bevels etc. Great fined. Wood working can be therapeutic, if you fine time go for it!
