The couple I got this from today said it was old and southwest made. Are they correct or is it a modern piece ? Or does anyone know exactly where it was made and about how old and what it's called ?

    Thank You

I'd say it's an early Hopi figural vessel, made for the tourist trade, and probably dating from late 1800s to 1920s.

Hopi potters generally were rather conservative, and generally didn't go overboard with the figural and effigy forms produced by some of the other southwest tribes, so it's definitely not a common item. But it's one that's certainly going to attract the attention of those collectors who look for this type of pottery. Personally, I think its a great find!
