Spherical Pottery ball?

    At 4 inches diameter, it does not seem big enough for that use. How heavy is it? Does it seem to be solid or hollow?

    You may have been thinking of the balls for lawn bowling which are larger, and made of wood.

    Both sets are called "bowls", not balls.
