This bowl arrived today. It is in a spongeware style although the decoration is not sponged but painted in broad brush strokes.

I know very little about spongeware but know that there are Scottish and Welsh styles as well as English.

Can anybody tell me if this is a known named pattern?

    Thanks 152198E7-9A83-4DDF-940A-E2974E5A1228.jpeg DC71B063-A8D3-4EBA-948D-5A8A6C59909E.jpeg EBB7FE45-F68F-48A5-9C48-594A92C17B15.jpeg 27544F50-2438-4EB3-AC47-662888F1A029.jpeg

Do they have pattern names? I don't think I've ever seen one named.

In the Netherlands we would call this pattern 'boerenbont', but I have no idea about British pattern names.

Yes. Persian Rose is a popular pattern

    I don't think that's British, I think it's Iberian or Provencal.

I knew I had seen it before! My parents had one of those covered ashtrays, the same kind of ware, bought from a potter someplace near Javea, south of Valencia.

I've seen very similar in Catalunya - it's one of those generic patterns.

And now I think, there's a teapot stand somewhere in this house with that design.

    Back in a bit.....
