    hey everyone

these are two staffordshire pieces i bought today

it seems even antique shops are giving them away, along with a nice drip glase vase it worked out to £8 for one and £5 for the ladies (repair to leg)

ive got quite a large collection now as everyone is getting rid. so im either thowing my money away with staffy pieces or being frugal and hoping that they might pick up one day

can anyone tell if these are legit pieces,(both 9ish inches) they seem allright but unsure if they are original pieces or after

    any thoughts appreciated

Second piece looks a bit older, that brown overglaze on #1 I think is a bit later, your vase looks like a Bretby or Linthorpe, unmarked but pretty sure from that era. Nice!

I think both those flatbacks are later - as in 19th C - "repros". 1880 ish on. Jardiniere looks Belgian.

I got a Belgian vibe as well, but I don't know much about pottery.

I am close to the Belgian border, so I get their vibes regularly.:wacky:

Thanks obb, as long as they are not the Chinese repros then I'm happy enough :)

the way that the figurines are cast, painted and gilded,... facial details.. all looks good to mine eye to be a 19 century piece. Very lovely figurines. Congrats

I've bought a few pieces of Staffordshire. Sold one and held onto the second because I doubt it's worth enough to bother. I'd have snagged that vase too; it's pretty sweet.

    Thanks evey

I actually really like Staffordshire, so I'm happy to find them and can't resist buying them at current prices of them

Charlie on that website you linked to, about 3/4 of the way down the page, when identifying real from repro, can you help me understand this passage:

"Look for base glaze coming up and onto the foot rim in one or more places compared to typical 20thC repro foot rims where glaze never comes up and onto the foot rim.."

where is the foot rim? Is he referring to the underside of the piece or the top of the base?
