    Hi,
Trying to id the maker of this sterling cane top. The marks are worn but they are the uncrowned leopard head for London, Lion for silver and the letter I'm 99% sure is f for 1921. The cane has a square shaft, mahogany with an ebony tip. The maker initials are B & A but I'm not finding anyone - hoping someone will know this mark.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks for looking

CX - You are the second member in as many days to request help finding the maker of a sterling cane top. And for the second time I have been unable to find a maker's mark, registered in London, that matches what's on your piece. I even looked in other English cities, just in case. I'm using this site

    http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/index.htm

which is normally the best there is, so I have to wonder whether the cane top makers just don't appear there at all. (I even scanned down several pages of marks for "cane top" in the column that shows the kind of things the relevant mark has been found on and saw none.

I know if we asked AF about this situation, his reply would likely be "some blokes in a shed" and that the maker is irrelevant. But I'm still curious now that there have been 2 in a row.

Thanks for looking bakers:) I tried looking in other cities too, and also tried R & A just in case but came up empty.

It's a beauty, so it will probably sell on looks alone, but it sure would be nice to understand why the mark is MIA.

Wellllll, I haven't had any luck on IDing B&A either. Here is a link to a thread on the 925-1000 board about cane/walking stick makers. I haven't time to look at the complete thread. The thread was started in 2012 and is at least 10 pages long. It contains lots of advertisement pages and pics of the actual silver hallmarks/makers' marks.

Following are a few links to dedicated cane/walking stick sites that might have help in IDing the maker??

Since it is so obscure, just make up a couple of names. If you can't find them there is no way for someone else to refute your invention.

It's simple, you just put 'allegedly' or 'possibly' in front of anything you made up.

Honesty is a policy, it use is discretionary, it is rarely a good plan to say 'Yes, your butt does look big in that', or answer the question 'Do you think I have lost weight' with 'Not that I can see'.

I can't see a lovely cane/walking stick like Shangas's without thinking of Fred Astaire and his many song-and-dance routines.

Oh my goodness -- Boo-boo ALERT!!!!

It is CXGIRL's cane, not Shangas's.

Thanks, Shangas, for calling my attention to that. ;)

My apologies to CXgirl, the rightful owner of the lovely cane/walking stick. :shame:
