Got this nifty looking letter and pen holder. There are ZERO hallmarks anywhere but it does test positive for sterling silver. Looks to be hand hammered? over a wood base. Any idea who would have made this item and when? ink6.jpg ink5.jpg ink3.jpg ink1.jpg

    I'd suspect South America.

Vitry, there very well MAY be marks somewhere on that delightful item.

I had a wall mirror from Brazil with a very similar, all-over pattern and wooden backing. I KNEW it was silver, but it took almost 2 years for me to find the marks!

I looked that thing over with a loupe several times and found nothing, yet one day, as I was merely wiping the glass, I suddenly saw the marks, worked right into the design.

    (You may find some yet!)

I get a brutalist vibe from the trim around the bottom,so Im guessing 50s-60s. Its different with those glass inserts.

Hallmarks on heavily decorated pieces can be INCREDIBLY well hidden. Sometimes you only find them by touch, or after a VERY good polishing. It's a nice piece, though :)
