This is a collection of basalt and obsidian tools. I know that 75 years ago, it was popular to walk along the Columbia and other local rivers and search for stone fishing weights and other artifacts. (Picking them up is today illegal, of course.)

I also know that obsidian knapping is popular today and that 'mountain man' rendezvous often feature arrow heads and the like.

Does anyone have any info or resources on evaluating age or authenticity on items like these?

    Thank you.

Any history/provenience for these items? I think your best bet will be to find an archeologist (at a college, university or historical society) familiar with the types of artifacts where you think these are from.

No history or provenance, just parts of a bigger collection at an estate sale.

    Thanks for the comment.
