Hello! I have this large 33cm tall 3.8kg demijohn. Isn't it a beauty? I'm trying to identify the maker (and thus... the origin and era), but I cannot read the signature. It looks like R. Weir---? I'm from Australia, if that helps.

    Maybe R. Werner?

It looks like it's signed in grease pencil or something so I wonder if it's the owner's name rather than maker.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Using Hue/Saturation, I was able to get some of the lettering stand out a bit more...
that third letter after the W "could possibly" be an 'X', still wasn't able to decipher the ending.....

This doesn’t look like a maker’s mark to me. I think it’s likely to have been signed by the user.

Thirded on that being the owners name. Typical nineteenth century keg.
