Featured Storage Find,Vintage Japanese or Chinese Watercolor Under Glass

    Not sure about first but second is a Japanese woodblock, sorry can't remember artist's name

    樂山 can read as 'Rakuzan' in Japanese

    Hi Couch potato, could you please explain the names,I didn't know I had the answer until someone posted,the first one is Takako Kanayama,are you say the painting is called Raw Painting? or is there another name,both painting is by the same person.A little help please

    Raw painting is not the title, it is merely a description of the style of painting used. There is no title given that I can see. As for the second painting, my apologies, but I cannot identify the characters. They are a bit too calligraphic in style for my ability to read it.

    They’ve got great, bright, cheery color as compared to many Japanese woodblocks I see. I love them all but these bright colors strike me a slightly atypical.

    Yes. Both of these artists come from an early 20th century tradition representing something of a fusion of traditional Japanese woodblock printing with Western influences - including (as here) an Art Deco inspired color palette.
