Got this piece which is marked with a number 10 followed by K L F. I first thought it was 10kr gold filled. I've just acid tested it almost to the core and it tests positive for gold.

Never seen marks like this and can find nothing abut it. Or am I just reading it wrong? Any ideas?

Oyeah the stone also test high on a electronic tester.

So,it's a generic cast 10k ring with a synthetic ruby. One with a maker's mark like thousands of others not listed anywhere.

Sorry Benny, don't know the mark, but as Hollyblue suggests, the world is full of mystery marks. And there is not nearly as much information on gold marks as there is on silver marks. It could be Asian.
How high did the stone test as?
Well, you buy rubbish and sell antiques, it can't be all that bad.;)

Haha that's true. It was bought as gold filled so should not complain (human nature). I looked at the stone and its very clear with no piques. Probably synthetic as HollyBlue suggested. Tested it with a simple diamond tester and it went up on the scale but not so high reading as a diamond.

Still a nice piece. But I only like special jewellery and stones so this will be a scraper I'm afraid :)

Do you have a diamond tester with green to red blocks, if so how many blocks lit up?

I got the one which goes from green, orange to red. I turn it all up just before it goes orange and than test the stones. It goes only 3 a 4 bars up in orange and doesn't reach red.

Diamond which I test go up to high red. Not much knowledge how rubies test. So yeah any info about this is welcome. Need to gather some knowledge.

Am I right in thinking that is a hardness of 7 (7 blocks in total)? That is about average for a gemstone, it could be any of a number of stones, tourmaline or a type of garnet maybe. A ruby would be 9, close to a diamond.

A garnet is a good possibility, but it could be a lot of things. A lab ruby would test all the way up the Mohs scale, but you might find one in a 10k ring. The short form is go ahead and scrap this if you want to.
