A 10k ring on a 14k gold disk on an unknown chain. What is this?

 

A monstrosity.
Perhaps it was an heirloom piece, and its owner wanted to wear it without actually wearing it. If a man inherited it, it might be too small or feminine for him to want to actually wear, so this would be an alternative (although you'd think wearing it on a chain would be less permanent).

 

The stone is interesting. My first thought was 'mystic' topaz (there are many other names) but if the photos are capturing it accurately, the play of color is not right. Is that really an artifact on the stone's table, light being reflected back out by the gold disk?

Does the chain have a clasp?

 

Chain has no clasp, yes the green on the disk is through the stone. I found something for the M&m which was a British antique hallmark, just not sure it goes with everything else

 

Do the British use "K" for karat? Normal would be "ct",the ring looks like it is lead soldered to the disk.

It looks more like WM to me, if the last stroke of the W is also the first one of the M. I doubt the maker of the gold disk had anything to do with cobbling this together.

 

Agreed, the ring looks way older
