Featured Strange wood box with metal inside and turtle

    I have had this for a few months now. The piece inside is solid metal and has a turtle and what looks like 2 waves or something. I cannot find anything out about this, the metal piece goes in between the 2 wood pieces.

    Any ideas ?

    Yes, my first thought also. Made to grind solid ink sticks with water for oriental calligraphy or painting. Sweet, I like the turtle :)

    I did see & knew right away that the turtle was probably Asian. Yangtze softshell came to mind, but probably only because I'd seen them mentioned recently.
