Just wondering if the dark areas of this style of jewellery are deliberately tarnished to enhance the pattern?
Does this style have a name? And what is the shape of the brooch? Any search terms would be very helpful please.
Oh,and is this vintage or more modern?
Brooch is 2.5” long and earrings 3/4”
    Thankyou for looking :)

I'm inclined to think they are damascene (and of course I've spelled that wrong.)

They don't appear to be Japanese damascene/Zogan inlay, looks more like engraved and patinated.

Under a loupe I’d be inclined to say hand engraved ( chased? Is that the right word?) The work on the brooch is very detailed and intricate, the earrings look more amateurish.
I’ll try and get a close up.

interesting that the little squares of metal where it would have been marked on the back of the earrings has been sanded down..

Maybe they started out as clip on type and were replaced with a post.

I'd think those were converted. I don't think they're a set with the brooch.

I agree. Similar but different patterns.

I can see that now, that looks to be exactly what has happened.

Thank you all. I knew these are old but they have replaced studs for pierced ears, makes sense now because I didn't realize the backs had been replaced! ;) Mystery solved! :joyful::kiss:

Thankyou! I found them in our weekly antiques fair in Cirencester which is stepping up to see me through the winter before the car boots start again.
I don’t think the seller had even seen the Sterling marks on them so they were £2 for both.
He started off telling me confidently that some beads were polished turquoise and I was adamant :nailbiting:they were glass (as I could see the Louis Rousselet clasp, but I didn’t tell him that), that got us chatting and he’s going to bring all his broken bits of jewellery for me next time he is there which could be interesting if he does.

I've those green beads on one of my own Rousselet pieces. I do like them.

No question those are glass. Of course if that maker is silly money, who cares? Not one I'm familiar with, but we 'Murricans don't get much vintage French costume.

I stumbled across Rousselet a while back, then discovered I owned pieces. It can be very silly money.
