KingofThings 'Illiteracy is a terrible thing to waist' - MHH

Hi! I collect Navy stuff, among other things, and just stumbled over this.
Can't find out anything about him and since there are no marks cast into the bottom I assume it had a label there. If he held liquor there would've been some type of seal and a tax label holding his hat on. I suppose he would be termed a 'decanter'.
He's about 1' tall and his white hat comes off/out which has a tapered extension that fits into his head.
Can't even guess at his age.
    Can anyone help?
He's not really for sale but do you have a valuation guess as well?
    Thank you!!!
p.s.. I had to really squish the more frontal photo even more than the other in a crop to upload it but that doesn't seem right with all the pics I've seen here.... Is it?

Hi, I don't know how others do there pictures, but I reduce mine to 640 x 480, and they work just fine.
    Cute little guy.:cat:

I wouldn't have thought that since he's ceramic.

There was a laundry soap called that... I wonder if he was a premium of some type.

I resize to those dimensions, too, Tyeldom. Crop first, then resize for best results.

I would have thought this kitchen soap guy was newer - say 80's?

    Very cute, though!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I was looking into this a little bit, but the lettering that I found on the soap was not at all like the lettering on your sailor. So, didn't really find anything definitive.

If you search Alberta's Molds sailor you can find a whole bunch, or just a search for sailor decanter will pull even more.
Some are marked GROG, BOURBON, etc. Some are personalized. Yours has the best paint job compared to the others I've just seen. :joyful:

Hi! Thanks for your input DAX!
This one isn't marked on the base but I went back to the store because there was a Chinese figure that I didn't buy. As lauragarnet stated it is an Alberta's mold and this one '71.
I recall that in '76 it was popular to pour forms yourself in the hobby shop on the Navy base I was attached to. We made many things there including those 70s mushroom kitchen canisters as gifts as well as the bedroom bowl and pitcher set which I did for my Mom. It had grapes and gold trim and was beautiful. :)
