It's a traditional souvenir item from Lebanon, and dates to ca. 1960's. Knives were the most popular, I think, but I've seen complete dinner ware sets, with spoons and forks, as well.

    Hi,
I am sure Taupou knows her stuff. I never noticed the Lebanon flag on the pieces.
I have several Zuni pieces that looks very similar with the silver inlay and colored dots. Sorry about the hasty response. I just got back from the pool and red eyed from the clorine.

Thank you Greg. I can certainly see the similarities to Zuni work.

I'm always looking for examples like this, of items from widely separated places in the world that look enough alike to confuse. Berber pottery from Morocco that looks like Cochiti pottery from New Mexico; African baskets from Namibia that look like Papago baskets from Arizona; ancient pottery from Iran that looks like Anasazi...there's actually a pretty long list.

Taupou, that conflation of design fascinates me, too. Remind me to post pictures of some of my Jordanian emvroidery bits sometime.

It's the influence of extraterrestrials. Just ask anyone.
