I picked up this old teepee lamp recently, thinking it was something cute from the 1960’s or early 70’s. It’s made of animal skin, wrapped around a metal frame. Unfortunately, the power cord has been cut:

Then, while researching the lamp, I found these, which sold at auction back in September:

Now, I don’t want to get my hopes up, but these look very similar to mine. Does anyone know if these Molesworth lamps were reproduced?

    Is yours signed like theirs?

Theirs aren’t signed but do say “Genuine goatskin” and “Albuquerque N Mex” on the bottom. Mine has no writing on it.

I guess "signed" wasn't a terribly accurate term to use, should have said marked maybe?:)

If no one has any info, you might try emailing the auction house and see what they can tell you.

I did find something similar, though in worse condition and not called a lamp, that didn't sell nearly as well but it wasn't identified either. With pouch sold for $100 in May of this year.

Thanks! My searches missed this one. I guess all the value is in the magical Molesworth name.

Honestly I would still contact the auction house (as SIS suggested).

    Can't hurt.

Here is a pic of the lamp’s brass light socket, in case it helps with dating.

Oh, signatures! Duh, I should have got that.

Here you go. As I mentioned before, no writing:

I find it encouraging, though, that the one say_it_slowly found also has no writing:

So, as suggested by a couple of group members, I contacted the auction house about my lamp. Today, I received the verdict from their vetting committee. The lamp IS by Molesworth!

They want to list it in their May auction, which means I’d need to get the lamp to them next month. As exciting as this is, I’m not sure I’m ready to part with it just yet. Decisions, decisions…

Fantastic lamp! I would be terrified of accidentally bumping/knocking it over though given the value so would probably sell.

I would put it somewhere safe but where I could see it every day until it was time to ship it out but I agree with @techbiker - it would be shipped out to be sold. JMHO

    Congrats!!

Is there any reason you can't enjoy it for awhile until you decide? Would they turn it down at a later time if you decided to sell?

I know that timing can be important in getting a good return on collectibles but there is something to say about love too:).
