Maybe since you have the actual scale, you can see what's actually stamped on it!! Could be a date....

 

Cleaned it up I’m pretty sure it goes “55, hart, best, best, warranted”. I typed that in earlier but had got nothing. I’ll look some more in to it

 

I don't suppose you could take some additional photos of the area with the writing on it, perhaps move the lighting around to cast shadows on the text which may help the wording jump out more for us?

 

I've got something like it in brass...but it's newer and used for a hanging plant...
yours looks old....and likely had a long life in the shop !!!

Interesting. One of our free digital TV channels has an old History Channel series called “Ice Road Truckers.” We watch it at times when we’re too tired do do anything else and there’s nothing else on the tube. But it is kind of engaging for reasons I don’t understand. Well there are a couple of hot female drivers. Aside from that, maybe I just like watching people in situations I don’t like (putting truck tire chains in -50F air.)
