Anyone have any clues on what the origins of this chair may be? I found it in a closet under the stairs after my Grandmother died and had no idea it even existed. It's interesting but don't know whe tree it came from or how old it may be. May be faced with selling it so a little back story would be awesome to have!

Id say 1870s on this one as well . I haven't seen one with a footstool like this .Amazing it still has the original leather .

    I think a little later than 1870s.

This is part of the American Oak era.
A version of the Morris Chair. Very popular at the turn of the century.

What I find interesting is it looks like it has the original upholstery which is a plus 20160505_071625.jpg

Yes, as far as I know it is the original upholstery. As I said before, it lived under the stairs for many years before I discovered it. And been rarely sat on since i took it out, except by an old cat who liked the blanket I kept it covered with.

Reminds me of an old prison electric chair. I'd be scared to sit in it! Pretty interesting piece but it would be the FIRST thing I'd sell.

Very interesting, though that padded section around the top of the back cushion strikes me as very odd.

As suggested, circa 1900 morris chair. While interesting, it is not a high ticket version. The best ones are pure mission (arts and crafts period) and some are more Victorian with good carving, claw feet, and such. The swans and the pop-out foot stool make it more interesting so someone should want it.
