    Hello friends, I'm newbie here.

So sorry. I meant that as a compliment for sure. :) Often new members have difficulty with providing photographs. You did an excellent job.

    Welcome to the board.
Can't help with your item. Just want to say that people come at all hours of the day. So be sure to check back tomorrow for answers.

Wonder if this should be moved to Antique Discussion Forum for more looks. Not everyone will look at Metalware.

Welcome, Arcy. What are the measurements of your item? Is the piece attached to the seal solid, hollow, or does it have a hole through it?

This is a fascinating piece! I know nothing about Templar seals, but had a go at Google. The standard images usually show two riders in tandem. I'm seeing only one rider on yours,(?) and possibly a dragon in the lower foreground. Did you already verso the image?

It seems that it is solid, it is difficult to check whether it is hollow, there is also a small chip at the top

In the photo, it is the same as in life, I did not turn it over
    No there is no dragon.

On Russian Wikipedia open "Изображения на печатях" and roll down, there is one rider.

I saw it too, and I didn't quite understand why there were two seals. This is not an angel, this is an eagle, this is the first seal with an eagle, if I'm not mistaken.

Guillaume de Liège was responsible for the commanderie de La Rochelle.
the one with the two riders was a seal of the whole order expressing the rule of poverty (Pauperes commilitones Christi templique Salomonici Hierosolymitanis). this one here and also the one in the Russian link are personal seals of individual Templars that were chiefs of one single commanderie. the network of the Templar commanderies was a system of strongholds with fresh horses and food for the knights to get from one point to the other asap. at the same time it was a postal system towards the Holy Land that transferred Credit Letters of the families to the knights in Outremer. the main "highways" were from Northern France either towards the Rhine and then down following the Rhone till the mediterranean ports or to Italy by Southern France directly. these commanders were all from gentry families.

I never thought of the Templars as the Pony Express of their day before.
