Okay so I stared working on getting pictures of the mud men and mud women. But this one has me total stumped. I have never seen one like it with the removable hands. Nor can I find anything on the internet. And I search under everything I could think of. Any ideas. All she can remember is she bought it years ago.

    Yrs ago can mean 5, 10 , 15 etc.

I have not been able to find any reference to Kwan Yin being a scribe.

Personally, I think this is something from the 1980s or after.
I of course can be very wrong.

    She's very pretty.

This one has 2 detachable hands. Is she twice as lucky?

    Hi @DeAnne

She's pretty - I do know many blanc de chine figurines come with hands detached - for shipping, I suppose. I don't know if that's what's got you stumped?

Yes I saw those, but the thing is it's not porcelain. All of those are porcelain. And this is constructed just like a mudman with the head stem inside.

That's why it has me stumped no pun intended LOL

What I noticed about it (that's different from most mudmen) are the glazed face and hands. The bottom looks new.

Oh and I do know that the CHINA stamp like that was only used 1890 and 1919 on these type of figures so I am so confused UGH

Most of the ones with glazed faces are newer. The old ones they didn't glaze the face

It's a puzzle that I am trying to figure out but definitely not newer. Because it does have the head stem inside and made of some type of clay or mud. UGh I wish I could get a picture but it's impossible I tried

This is different piece but this is what I am talking about with the head stem.

DeAnne, I love her. Can't tell you anything about the hands, but she is not Guanyin.
I think she is Ban Zhao, a Han dynasty scholar/philosopher and historian.
A romanticized picture of Ban Zhao with a scroll in her right hand (and fan in her left:happy:):
