Hi, This is what I know about the bust, Marked Minnesota Mining Manufacturing 1960 on the back. Did some research, they are now 3M corp. Evidently did a lot of different things before they grew up. The only reference I can find for the company doing any art is a correspondence between a now defunct Gallery in NY with the MN Arts museum.
Anyone got any ideas, or seen the marking before? Bought at estate sale, caretaker said it was a Rosecrucian figure, other folks say its Jesus?
    Thanks
    Judy

Can you take a photo in better lighting?
Does it have a face, or is it just a void under the hood?

I could be wrong, but I read Minnesota MINNING mfg ... not mining.

    Good point.
Does it look to you like there may be other letters in front of "minning"?

Definitely not the correct full name for 3M - second word ( ending in INNING) looks like it might start with an F; 3M's name is Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing so the marking is missing &.

Seems to have both a small MFG under -INNING and a bigger one with the copyright symbol and date. Very odd and unprofessional looking mark.

Looks like The Grim Reaper to me, with that black hole instead of a face under the hood. What's in its hands?

My guess is someone's idea of a Halloween decoration. Not "art."

Wow. That listing is a surprise. At least that one has a face.

I wouldn't give too much credence to the other misspelled hits, though. I've noticed how often Mr. Google simply puts your search words into links to places that want your money. "We found XXXXXX!" "Buy XXXX cheap on ebay"

If you look through the other Google links I gave, that is the way it is spelled within them. So it wasn't just a Google glitch.

Here is an old entry from another site - someone asking about what sounds like the same type of statue (no photos)

One statue of Othello form the famous play by William Shakespeare. I bought this statue at an Art Gallery in Charleston S.C in the early 1980's. The back of the statue says "Minnesota Minning" and MFG 1960. The "6" is very hard to read and it maybe an "8." This is a very "stunning" statue to view and I hope the pictures do it justice. Most people viewing it have no knowlege of its connection to the classic play by Shakespeare, but they are still moved by it. If you are familar with the play and know the significance of the handkerchief wich Othello holds, his black skin ("The Black Moor form Venice") against the white robe, then the statue will hit you even harder and I believe you will experience "Aesthetic Arrest."

When I bought this statue, I was told it was a reproduction of a famous statue. I verified this years later, but I have googled every combination of Othello, statue, Shakespeare, England... and I cannot find it. If you know the original statue, please drop me a line!
