Featured Those 20 pence earrings and a shilling brooch

There was a charity stall on Saturday, so I handed over a few pennies. All the earrings they had were 20p a pair. On cards, so it was only when I unhooked I realised the sparklies were Grosse. Pink ones are 900 marked silver. The aquamarine look silver too, they need a clean.

The splendid shilling brooch was rather more on Sunday. About 270 old shillings to buy.

I'm addicted to Victorian brooches. It has a minute mark saying patented on that clip thing.

 

I have a brass gizmo that has that same barrette-like mechanism only, no pin. Think it was sold as being for hair, but my tentative conclusion is that it is meant to go through 2 top buttonholes on a high collared blouse. The part that is visible when worn is a hinged bit with a glass coral cabochon on top that forms a little vertical tube when closed. Due to small diameter, I conclude it is for lace.

OBB's obviously stands alone, not meant as an accessory for anything else. Having trouble, though, imagining how you could use the prong part as I propose without jabbing yourself with the pin, even if you had a lady's maid to do it for you.

That's a very good observation. Maybe its a Change-A-Coin brooch.

 

If so then if OBB wants, she can open it up and straighten the coin

 

and / or , the coin itself , not having. been soldered or altered would still command coin value !

Wish I could find a shilling brooch like that here, but Americans didn't make them much as far as I can tell. Or if we did, we melted them all.
