Thoughts on ashtray

    Hi all picked this up today. Small ashtray 90mm across quite detailed has ardent 1000 on bottom googled but found conflicting details hoping someone can confirm what it means and approx how old it is thanks chris 15060652358503.jpg 15060652046792.jpg 15060652046161.jpg 15060652044950.jpg

    It says argent 1000, which would suggest that something is 100% silver. Argent is French for silver. They probably meant silver plated, Bakers will know.

    Thanks for your confidence, AJ, but although I *think* I've seen similar markings with "argent" and 1000, I cannot dredge up where. It's certainly not an official French mark (despite the word argent meaning silver in French) for either a solid silver object nor a silverplated object.

    But I do think it's plated and not terribly old either. Could be Italian.

    Was pretty tarnished when I got it will test silver when I get my test kit quite thin only 1mm thick
