I bought this at a yard sale over week end - it's titles on the back, but no signature that I can find.
    It's large - 36" x 40" with frame
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you all

This feels like a copy of something, but I can't place it.

Says on the back (under the marker) "Homage to Soutine."

I was just going to ask for a non-glare picture of that bit.

    I still can't find a match.

Painted somewhat in the style of expressionist Chaim Soutine.

Yup, it really appeals to me. Shame her feet didn't make it, but she's delightful.

I don't get it as an homage to Soutine, but I'm not particularly familiar with his work.

Maybe the note was scratched out because the person who wrote it was wrong. :joyful:

I wonder if theres a signature under the bottom of the frame ?

Maybe the frame was reused, so the marked out stuff was about a prior painting?

I kind of like it, too... has a certain charm about it.

My first thought the scratched out part was from another painting too.
    Any idea of age?

My thought on seeing was one of the little girls from depression era 'Little Rascals' and then Popeye's Olive Oil!

age appears to be from the 60s in my opinion.

I agree re 1960s. Here's Hayley Mills in 1961's Parent Trap with a similar do, a longish pixie cut. Frame looks right for that dating.

There's a signature on the painting in the picture, the painting behind the girl. Might be worth a look.

I'm on my phone and can't make the piece quite large enough at the moment, but brilliant catch!
