Thoughts On This Antique Tekke-Turkoman Necklace

I am soooo out of my league on this one, I thought I'd come here to ask for any info anyone wants to throw my way. I deal in $15 or $20 jewelry, rarely do I get something over $100, let alone something so foreign to me.

This is what was on the card that came with it:

Antique Tekke-Turkoman Pendant from Samarkand, Russia. Pendant of pure silver bullion, chased with 24k gold leaf, set with Himalayan carnelian. Amber from the Aral Sea. "Haji" coins are temple tokens from Mecca. Circa 1800.

The reverse of the card has a red wax seal. Underneath it says "Peterson Conway". I can't tell what the red ink stamp says except the last line ends in "ASIA".

The other card just gives directions for the care of amber from the Amber Guild Ltd.

I love, love, love this necklace because it's probably the most interesting thing I've ever gotten. However, I can never afford to keep what I find; I need to find the best way to market it.

Beyond any interesting info anyone has to offer on the necklace, my main question is, does anyone think this would be worth sending to an auction house to sell. Maybe not so much because it's worth that much, but moreso because it will get a better targeted audience than it would on ebay. Also, I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to price this for ebay.

Thanks for having the patience to read all that and anyone responding!

    Pics in next post.

Yes, Tekke Turkmen. A very nice piece.
Unlikely that it is from Samarkand, which is Uzbek, but Turkmen people do travel to Samarkand, and it could have been bought there by the previous owner.
The rest of the info on the card is probably correct.

    Welcome to the forum, prillo.
I just sent tie.dye a message. When she logs in again she will see it, even if she doesn't see yours. I'm sure she'll get in touch.
We have found out some more about it, it is an extremely rare necklace.
It was once owned by a Hajjah, a lady who undertook the long and dangerous pilgrimage to Mecca from Central Asia. The tokens with the mosque on them are called Udhiya tokens, proof for the pilgrims that a sheep will be sacrificed on their behalf. The pilgrims themselves don't kill the sheep, that is done in a designated part of Mecca under government control. The meat is given to the poor.

Old thread, but just wanted to say that I can't believe this beautiful necklace hasn't sold yet! Urgh. I've lowered it to $89 and even dropped it further in a recent sale that just ended

It's such a cool necklace; I can't believe no one has bought it.

But yet someone paid $36 for 6 plastic Howard Johnson's cups from another seller. What's wrong with this picture?

Hi, KSW -- Although it's not my necklace I found the listing for this one and have sent both you and tie.dye.cat a private message with the link. This is because sellers are not supposed to advertise pieces publicly here. I wasn't sure if you were interested in the piece yourself.
