Nice overall look on this planter, is it hand done?? The signature reminds me of those paint-it-yourself ceramic pieces from the 60s/70s... but the rest of it doesn't fit so much. Thoughts?

Would this be a studio piece??

Can you feel evidence of the ribs on the inside?

I have seen this before. I am thinking it was one of my grandmother's planters but not sure. I am probably wrong, but I think it may be a 70's planter but please wait for the experts.

Very faint evidence of ribs inside... mostly smooth, but slight ribs.

One thing I just noticed, if you look carefully on the bottom of the pot, there is a straight seam and this faintly follows up the pot on both sides, almost as if two pieces were put together.

So just puzzling this one out. My instinct is it mass produced, but then why the somewhat crude signature -- I suppose could be glazed by that person, but actually it came out quite well and doesn't look totally amateur. This was purchased at the glass estate sale I've been posting. The planter was surrounded by 19C pieces on the hold table and I remember the estate seller marveling instead at this planter. It was just $3, so even if decorative, probably was a good purchase. Just curious about it.

Here is my clumsy attempt at showing where the seam is. The photo doesn't show it well so I circled it. A definite seam if you look closely and goes up both sides of the pot as well as on the base.

Home hobby ceramics. You choose the greenware, colour and glaze it and someone with a kiln fires it. Very popular craft in the 1970s.

Kentworld is correct, it's a hobby piece of glazed greenware.

It's glazed on the bottom, and I don't know of any studio potters who glaze the bottoms of their pots. The signature is also unlike that of a professional studio potter.

Greenware for hobby crafts is usually made from a mold, which explains the line on the bottom. The original could have been thrown on a wheel, and then the mold made of it, which is often the case.
