    The are kind of on the soft side. Looks cheap but any idea what are they?

    Maybe turquoise, or composition turquoise? 1970s-ish to present? My other guess was jade or jadeite, but these look kinda scruffy. Fashionable, though.

    Edit - Plus... I've seen a lot of similar multi-strand turquoise necklaces out west... what's that fancy name that means "multi-strand-twisted-bead-necklaces"? Starts with a T or an S...

    Those are somewhat translucent so I don't think they can be turquoise which, I think, would be completely opaque. Maybe aventurine? It's a form of quartz so the translucence would make sense.
