Thrift find - box of 8 first edition Harry Potter!

    This box of books came off a truck of my friend's thrift store last week. When I saw it was Harry Potter I wasn't too excited because I see them all the time.
    But when I saw they were printed in the UK, I bought the box.
    At home I found out they were all 1st editions! (but different printings)
    There were 8 books, but 2 were a copy of the same.
    Any info on these, the printing # & anything else I should know would be greatly appreciated!

    This has a typo Anglesea that the spelling was changed in later printings.
    Does the number line mean it is a 12th printing of a 1st edition?

    Yes I saw that - I know mine's not a firt printing even though a 1st edition - but mine goes numeralicaly up & then down and skips some numbers & ends up at 12 instead of in chronological order - is that still the 12th printing?

    According to the website below, "The last four titles in the series, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows... The print run for the first edition of all the last four titles was very large, and as a result, even first edition copies in dust jackets in fine condition are fairly commonly found, and not presently of high value".
    (Key words "not presently"! Still worth hanging onto, hopefully!)

    My guess is that after they finished the 10th printing, they switched from descending numbers (10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1) to alternating left/right numbers that converge on the center 20 (the pattern isn't random, and doesn't skip). Which would indeed mean it's the 12th printing.

    Had seen that info when I got home with the books. At this moment someone has the same three for sale on Catawiki, and the current bid is 9 EUR ...and that's already more than what I paid for the books :D

    Can't find the Catawiki auction I mentioned yesterday, but I did find one that ended 4 weeks ago

    €174!?! That wouldn't be a bad ROI :D
    I wonder if they would accept my copies for auction... I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't, as it wouldn't be the first time they decline an item, based on their 'expected minimum of 75 eur' rule, even when they sold a similiar item before for a higher amount :rolleyes: (and still refusing it, even when I send them a link to those previous auctions :confused:)
