Thrift store find - I was told it's a Chinese wedding basket?

    I bought this today at my local thrift store for $50. The manager told me it was a Chinese wedding basket. But when I looked on eBay the majority were round?
    Is this a wedding basket? The image on the top looks like 2 samurais are getting ready to fight - would they put that image on a wedding gift?
    How do I tell how old it is? (the glass covering the artwork on top makes me think it's not as old as manager implied?)
    Any info/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Yep they do come like this, and hexagonal/octagonal. Glass may be a later edition, not seen that before. From the thin brass work this may well be a post war example, here's one I had recently.
