Hi all. This was another small purchase from my favorite thrift store. It is 7 1/2" long. metal and wood with a scroll inside. I think the Turquoise and coral are real, but what is the dark blue stone? I don't think it is very old, and not well made so most likely a tourist piece.

Yes, tourism and export, made in Nepal, not Tibet.
They could be real stones, but not real turquoise and coral. More like dyed howlite and dyed jasper.
It would like to be lapis lazuli.

Thanks for the information AJ. Especially on the dyed stones. Could very well be and I had no idea.

Natural stones in Asian art are rarely a uniform colour.
Tibet has no coral, it has always imported Mediterranean red coral, which is an orangey red in its natural state. Tibet does have beautiful turquoise, but it is mostly a more greenish blue.

This is what coral and turquoise look like in Tibetan items:

Check out the price in the link, genuine natural Mediterranean red coral and Tibetan turquoise are valuable, especially if antique.;)
