"Petra Williams' Staffordshire II Romantic Transfer Patterns, p. 268, has this pattern. Like Godden they are not sure of the maker. In fact at the end of the description they reference Godden. At the top of the page they say "possibly made by Elijah Hodgkinson." This book dates the pattern 1851 and after. Along with the description of the pattern they say,

"This pattern was also made in Flow Blue. Walmer was a former district near Kent, England. Walmer castle, built by Henry VIII is there. It was and is a popular seaside resort visited by many famous people. The Duke of Wellington died there. In 1935 it was incorporated into the city of Deal. Marked E.H. and (imp.) Stone. Could be one of three potters. See Godden page 716, 1851 plus." "

 

So interesting to read information on the name “Walmer”. Maybe the castle might be the image that is on my platter. Thank you so much. I have so much to learn about transferware
