Featured Trench Art, Mary Esther Clack from Elmer, 1944

13” tall brass 40mm L60 antiarcraft gun cartridge case has sketch images of woman in Khimar and camel. Dedication reads “Mary Esther Clack, Love, Elmer. Oran, Algeria, ‘44.” I’d like to know about the Mary Esther Clack who was alive in 1944. The only one I found on web died in England in 1931. Can any of you genealogists find something on Mary Esther Clack? I don’t know if Elmer was her boyfriend or husband.

I did a quick search on Ancestry. I decided to go with "Clark" and not "Clack" All I came up with was a grave. (Spouse listed as Elmer)

Yup. that's them! Found a 1943 Navy Muster Roll that reported his transfer from the ship on which he had been serving to Oran, Algeria!!

 

KOOL, look like you nailed it! I’ll print this out, roll it up, and keep the paper inside the brass.
