Triangular piece of buttoned lace.

    Can anyone tell me what this was used for.

    I found it in the bottom of a jewellry box neatly folded, obviously kept for a sentimental reason.

    Very fine almost silk like lace work.
    The tiny buttons are smooth and possibly Bakelite.

    These were buttoned into the top of a dress, so as not to reveal too much cleavage. Bakelite buttons make sense, given the period, which I would guess to be 1930s-40s.

    It looks like machine lace to me, but Leslie has already been tagged and she will tell you more.

    Good Morning!
    Cute! I'd call it a "modesty panel"... and yes, machine lace.
    Could have been for a garment that needed "modesty" during the day and remove it for your dinner date. I'm thinking 30's or 40's...with the bakelite buttons!
