    Can anyone tell me more about this spoon? Something made for tourists? $_57 - 2021-08-20T121038.664.jpg $_57 - 2021-08-20T121024.356.jpg $_57 - 2021-08-20T121243.482.jpg $_57 - 2021-08-20T121143.217.jpg $_57 - 2021-08-20T121058.315.jpg

    yes...but nicely carved though..
u can see the way the stain is sloughed off to give the appearace of age....

you mean how its darker in some areas and not others because of stain? you'd think that would take some time to carve

yes, it's a nice carving....then it's stained...and then areas od the stain are brushed away ...to give it an aged look !

My first impression is also that the carving is nice but has been aged. The wood on original spoons are usually hardwood and dark, one would probably find wear from use. As komokwa suggests its probably stained and aged.

Sorry - just noticed this post.
It looks like a recent carving by a Fang artisan (Gabon/Cameroon/Equatorial Guinea). They do those short, pumped-up body types, and spoons are a common item.
